Ranchu breeding(2020)
11/6/2020
October is the time for finishing goldfish. The water, which is below 20°C and is filled with moss and phytoplankton, provides nutrients for the ranchu, creating conditions similar to their natural environment.I don't overprotect my Ranchus. I think that if you raise your ranchu with too much protection, their constitution will have a weak resistance and will be less able to adapt to nature, making them more susceptible to diseases.Japan's natural world has a four-season climate. And the water temperature changes depending on the season. The amount of feed is also adjusted taking into consideration weather and environmental conditions.Of course, we also consider sun enclosures, windbreaks, and thermal enclosures as supplementary measures. That's how Ranchu is created and finished. In the coming season, I especially want to keep the ideal type and balance of ranchu. With an image in mind of your goal, always remember to find a good ranchu that you like.Whenever you see a good ranchu that you want to raise next year, it is important to remember it and use it as a reference.I thought it was important to create a pond in this limited environment by incorporating as many of the best natural mechanisms as possible.
I'm going to do a water change.
The width has increased in a month.
They are getting bigger.
From now on, I will cut back on feeding them and prepare for winter. Don't forget to keep them in good health at all times.
Reduce the amount of food you give them to prepare for winter.
It has grown this big by feeding it Tsuya-Fuji.
The water temperature was below 20°C.
Change the water leaving the moss behind.
From now on, we will refrain from feeding them and prepare for winter.Don't forget to keep them in good health.
Last year, I stopped feeding the 2-year-old parent fish around 10/25.The morning outside temperature was 10-15℃.We will refrain from feeding from November 5th.I stopped feeding the fish in the area where I changed the water around 11/10.I will change the water several times until March of the following year. The plastic pond is 11°C, and I usually feed the fish until the morning water temperature is 4°C, but this year I will stop feeding them when the water temperature drops below 10°C.
The shape of the tail is also determined by DNA.The head and body depend on the lineage, but I think it can make some if you eat hard enough.
I continue to collect all kinds of breeding data every day without fail. The accumulation of each day is recorded.I always check and raise ranchu by looking back at data from three years ago, learning from it so that I don't make the same mistakes again.I think that by trying new things, seeing for yourself what you think is good, accumulating experience and collecting data, and going through both failures and successes, you will finally be able to speak about it.Every day is learning, and learning is important.
I use my experience and knowledge when raising ranchu, but I also value my intuition and instincts. And this intuition, this feeling, has a biorhythm. When we come up with something good in our ideas and ingenuity, there is a momentary flash of inspiration, and I think this is an important way of thinking that is born out of biorhythm.I would like to use this idea and intuition in fish breeding to help raise my ranchu.
Imagination, sensibility, and sensations are wonderful and fascinating things. The important thing is to question everything.Let's have fun raising ranchu.I am very happy that people are pleased with my waste work making feed.I will continue to waste things. You should never give up on anything.Inventing is about doing waste things, finding enjoyment in them, and creating something new.I think it's not about looking for results, but the results will come eventually.I have been thinking about modern ways to raise them that anyone can do and how to enjoy them without spending too much money.

These are traces of a ranchu eating the moss on the wall.I look at this and decide whether to feed them too much or too little.
Breeding tubercles can be seen in about three months.
I have placed an aquarium on top of the pond lid to prevent typhoons. We also weighted it down with blocks and secured it with ropes to prevent it from being blown away.
It will be pregnant around mid-September, so you have to be careful. You may choke on eggs or get sick from eating eggs. Therefore, constant monitoring is necessary. If possible, I think it's best to keep males and females separate. The two-year-old parents also pregnant, so keep a close eye on them.Because it has been hot up until now, their appetite will decrease when the water temperature drops to 21 to 22 degrees.I will carefully adjust the food I give them until they get used to the lower temperature. You must observe the fish carefully.

It's the peak season in September. This month is one of the best times to grow them.
However, rapid growth can cause the body shape to become distorted, so you need to adjust the growth accordingly. Also, it's important to keep them from getting sick.I think it's okay to have whatever color you like, body shape, or whatever you like, even if it has some flaws.Among them, if there is even one good ranchu, it will be used as a breeding stock and the lineage will be cultivated for many years. Then, you can find its merits and demerits and select it.
I'm in the process of changing the water.
This goldfish wasn't selected during the selection process.
But I'll try to grow it a little more.
The best thing to do is to keep your favorite or best ranchu and enjoy them.In the process, I think it will be more fun if you can understand not only the ranchu you like, but also the characteristics of the types of good ranchu.Simply put, I think a good fish is one that is symmetrical and has a well-balanced body.No matter how good the characteristics of a fish, a fish with an unbalanced head and body often has poor balance in other areas, such as internal balance. And since that characteristic may be inherited through DNA, I do not use it as a parent species. From now on, I will keep the ranchu that I like, the elegant ones with well-balanced bodies, the beautiful and impressive ones, and so on.

Ranchu whose water is changed every day will not be able to use pond water as they will be sensitive to aged water. Therefore, change the water every 3 to 4 days to get them used to the aged water. If the water temperature is also within common sense, always acclimate the fish to the temperature.
My case…
・Adjust the air depending on the ranchu and water conditions.
・Carefully observe the condition of the ranchu and adjust the water depth accordingly.
・n my ponds, I adjust the water depth to suit the ranchu in each pond.
This year, we collected eggs from 36 fish.Every year, we fail, but we continue to learn ways to improve. It's great to work hard at anything.I love enthusiastic people and people who work hard.Since eggs are collected several times in one season, each ranchu and each pond is a learning experience. There is a lot to learn, so every year, I put my all into it and push myself to the limits.
Working on water change.Moss ponds are important for color boosting. To boost color using natural moss water, you need to cover the pond with moss.Furthermore, if you give Tsuya-Fuji, the color will be even more.Another purpose of growing natural algae is to make the fish's tails less susceptible to damage.
This year, I collected eggs from 36 fish. However, due to the effects of COVID-19, this year's breeding is different from last year.I continue to breed them despite being busy.Raising them is one of the things I enjoy, but creating different strains is also an interesting part.I make sure to create different strains every year.Last year was exactly as I expected.I was able to have fun and raise them in accordance with the laws of nature.Overall, this year's ranchu have turned out just the way I wanted them to.
I think that a ranchu that is good to see from above is also good to see from below.I think that a good Ranchu has a good balance of everything. The tail plate(a special plate for Ranchu goldfish to appreciate their tail fins) is also important. However, this period is not the only time, as tail plates may appear after they grow larger. If possible, I think it's best to understand the characteristics of the previous three generations or so so as to pass on superior DNA.
I started cleaning the pond on March 20th.Before cleaning the pond, it was full of algae and moss.
Wash the pond.
After cleaning the pond, we put the Ranchu back in.
Place the ranchu in the bowl and check its pattern and health condition.
Then I will return it to the pond
We have grown to this point using Tsuya-Fuji.
The fish have gotten used to me and now come to poke my fingers.I find this cute and endearing.
It seems that male breeding tubercles have appeared.
They lay eggs in the dark
Eggs were collected by artificial insemination.
This is the first water change. The black things sinking are the newly hatched fry.If you collect eggs in the middle of May at natural temperatures, the fry will hatch in about 1.5 to 5 days.Even the fry that hatched in 1.5 days will grow up well.I think this is also because the DNA is a good
I try to create water quality that is compatible with nature.Based on that belief, this pond took decades to prepare. There are a lot of daphnia, tadpoles, earthworms, water moss, and bottom mud.I think there is a law of nature in this pond. The water in this pond is rich in natural nutrients, so I think it will be suitable for ranchu.
I change the water with this water, the water will harmonize with the fish and make it easier for them to spawn in about three days.
When the baby is about 1 week to 10 days old, I start using Tsuya-Fuji and brine shrimp together.Make it into balls and feed it to the young fish.
Gradually increase the amount of brine shrimp.
The balls are fed to them in gradually larger portions. There is also the influence of DNA, but I give Tsuya-Fuji to make it as big as possible before scales form. However, since the internal organs are not yet complete, you need to be careful not to give them too much.
I am making frozen paste containing Tsuya-Fuj(frozen)i.When feeding, please allow it to thaw and then tear it into small pieces.
The fry are getting bigger little by little and are eating more feed.
A pond is prepared with the above-mentioned vinyl, and artificial fertilization is performed on top of the vinyl, with the fertilized eggs being submerged along with the vinyl.
Once they hatch, remove the vinyl.
Make a paste-like Tsuya-Fuji.Make it flat by pressing it.
I will give it more and more paste-like Tsuya-Fuji.
My air stones are handmade.I put pebbles inside to keep them from floating.
I love them!
I use recycled water. The reason is that good quality brine shrimp hatch well even in recycled water.
This is when I'm sorting the fry.
The water moss in the pond has grown to about 1.3m and has spread throughout the entire pond.
At the Fujimoto Laboratory
I think that the water in the reservoir is the lifeline and essence of nature. In nature, there are various living creatures and microorganisms, and they live in harmony with plants, and they work to purify the water. We have about 30 tons of water in the pond that we have been preparing for decades. From now on, I would like to make full use of it as we approach summer.I think it's best to maintain a natural balance in all things. This is because I believe it is extremely important to adapt to nature.Human beings follow the laws of nature and incorporate nature's laws as much as possible.I would like to have the idea of getting as close to nature as possible. Please keep in mind that you should always keep in mind to observe the situation of the fish and make adjustments according to your own breeding situation.Natural water is the best water for fish.I think it's water that has adapted to nature.
Tsuya-Fuji is the same, and we will continue to select high-quality food that is as close to natural as possible over and over again, through trial and error, and continue to create the best bait for fish.
In addition, when it comes to raising fish, there are times when immunity alone is not enough.I think we need to consider breeding methods that make the most of what the fish has.
There are many different types of fish, but I think the best way is to grow the one you like and enjoy it.

When selecting, priority is given to larger fry.
After sorting, put it in the pond.
They are laying eggs.
Although the size differs for each pond, we scoop them out from the pond and sort them.
Scoop them out and start sorting.
The first selection is the most important. If you choose the one that suits your tastes through selection here, you will have more fun raising it.
Repeat the selection.
I adjust the feeding method and water depth depending on the bloodline. For the Ranchu below, I adjust the water depth to the second joint of my index finger and feed them Tsuya-Fuji paste.
They are getting bigger little by little, and we will repeat the selection process.
Large fry are transitioning from pasty to granular bait.
It's getting a bit bigger.
They have started to eat pellet food.
The small size is made using a combination of Tsuya-Fuji paste and brine shrimp.
Sorting and feeding are repeated daily.
I'm also making Tsuya-Fuji paste one after another.
The small fry grow bigger and bigger.
Repeat the process of sorting and feeding.
Through repeated selection, they are growing larger.
The color has also changed.
Feed Tsuya-Fuji to even small fish.
Theis is a tiger ranchu fry (black base).
Repeat the selection. Some fry fish have started to change color.
The fish are raised while adjusting the air.
A few of them are starting to change color and are eating Tsuya-Fuji.
Raising ranchu is a hobby for me.It's tough and tough, and there's a lot to learn.Always remember to learn and find your own way of raising them.
Thank you very much for the inquiries about Ranchu from many people.Let's do our best to raise them together with all the friends of Tsuya-Fuji.
The water depth depends on the characteristics and DNA of the Ranchu, especially the tail shape and various tail qualities. After that, you should know well about breeding methods and their strains.
Increasing the size depends on the number of fish, the water temperature, and the environment, so consider all kinds of conditions.I think it's best to keep a ranchu that is suitable for your environment and breeding method. If you choose the best ranchu for your conditions, you can enjoy watching them grow well. I think the most important thing is to enjoy yourself.
I think this Tsuya-Fuji is a good feed.I've fed them various feeds up until now, but none of them were quite right.Tsuya-Fuji is a bait that gets better the more you use it, and is a bait that has never been used before. It's also well-received by people I know. You will get a general idea of how to raise them in the first season, and you will be able to figure out how to raise them in the next season.
This year, the conditions for keeping them are tough due to the effects of COVID-19. I don't have time.
However, in my case, the important period is around 40 to 50 days. Then, little by little, the fry will start eating the grains of Tsuya-Fuji as is.I think this period is the most important. If you repeat the selection, you will be able to understand the DNA.Be mindful of selecting a strain that suits your breeding style, especially your environment. In my case, the selection is decided at the first selection. That selection will determine how you will raise your Ranchu.
